Sweet Easter bread to celebrate Easter
3 to 3 1/4 c. All-purpose flour
1 package Active dry yeast
1 1/2 TBS. Sugar
1/2 TBS. Salt
1/2 c. Milk
1/4 c. Water
2 TBS. Butter
2 Eggs, slightly beaten (reserve 1/2 TBS to brush on top of dough before baking)
Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix well.
Heat milk, water, and butter until very warm. Butter does not need to melt completely.
Add liquid to flour mixture. Then add eggs. Mix well.
Gradually stir in remaining flour to make a firm dough. Then knead on floured surface until smooth and elastic. (~5 minutes)
Place in greased bowl, turning to grease top of the dough. Cover and let rise about 1/2-1 hours.
Punch dough down.
Make into two strips and twist together in greased bread pan.
Cover and let rise about 15-30 minutes.
Brush with reserved egg and 1/2 TBS of water.
Bake at 375F for 35-40 minutes.
